Best wishes for 2018

Hope everyone is having a good start to the year.

Painting was curtailed when I injured my leg in November. I didn’t get back into the painting chair properly for the rest of the year but have made a start today by popping some washes on a few figures for the Bourbonnais Regiment. Finishing these will be my January project. Not too ambitious as I suspect work will keep me pretty busy over the upcoming weeks...

I’ll do some updates here but will check in more regularly on Facebook.

Using Powerpoint to draw a map

In response to requests, here is a quick and basic tutorial for creating wargames table maps using MS-Powerpoint 2010. I hope this helps someone out there:

Wotiff's Bend: Reorganising the section around the Mill

Having mulled things over I decided the Hessians would benefit from more space to form up and this would look better as a demonstration game. It also allows the Hessians a hill on which to place their artillery to provide support or to bombard the fort.

I have also "officially" added the ford just west of the bridge, to provide a second crossing point for the Hessians. As the river now has three crossing points I expect I'll not allow it to be forded elsewhere.

The map has been drawn using MS Powerpoint, and lots of little tricks with bevel, shadow and glow effects.

I'm much more satisfied with this setup.

Wotiffs Bend: testing the setup around the mill

More testing to check that the terrain tiles and units fit together OK

Now we have the Eastern side of the battlefield, where the fort covers the bridge next to the Mill. The river however appears fordable in places so the Hessian attackers can spread out.

To defend the bank, the Continentals have two brigades. In the pictures below both are fully deployed however they might no begin the game so organised.

I think I'm satisfied that the scenario will "work". When properly set up there will be more roads, fences, fields, etc; but the basics all seem to slot into place.

I now need to make some decisions about how easy the river is to ford/cross away from the usual places.
